How to take it at home

  1. 01Stand half a metre from a plain light wall, facing a window.
  2. 02Hold the phone at eye level, or ask someone to take it.
  3. 03Upload it above. We crop it to the spec and whiten the background.
  4. 04Download the online file, or the print sheet for a photo shop or typing centre.

The rules

  • Recent colour photo taken in the last 6 months, 33 × 48 mm, no frame.
  • White or nearly white background.
  • Head 28–33 mm from the chin to the top of the head, 15–22 mm wide; 3–5 mm above the head; at least 7 mm below the chin.
  • Neutral expression, eyes open, lips closed, ears visible.
  • Glasses allowed except thick frames, tinted lenses or glare. Head covering for religious reasons only, face not hidden.
  • Digital file: JPEG, 354 × 472 to 420 × 560 pixels, 40 KB to 120 KB.

Good to know

  • Some older pages say 20–33 mm for the head; current pages (2025–2026) say 28–33 mm, which VisaSize follows.
  • The online form checks photos automatically and may ask you to crop again.
  • The head is measured from the chin to the top of the head, not the top of the hair. The embassy says voluminous hair may be cut off at the top to keep the head size.
